How to wash a garment-dyed crew

Reactive dye is alive for a wash or two. Because the color lives in the cotton rather than on top of it, a garment-dyed crew keeps settling in its first few cycles. Treat it gently early and it holds the shade you paid for.

Machine wash below 30°C

Wash with water below 30°C. Turn the T-shirt inside out and wash with similar colors to help protect the outer surface and shade.

Use a mild detergent

Choose a gentle detergent and follow its recommended dosage. Skip fabric softener. It coats the loop-back and dulls the exact hand you paid for.

Do not bleach

Avoid bleach and detergents containing bleach. They can damage the color and fabric.

Do not wring

Do not twist or wring the T-shirt. Gently press out excess water without stretching the fabric.

Tumble dry gentle or hang dry in the shade

Use a gentle tumble-dry setting, or reshape the T-shirt and hang it to dry in the shade. Keep it out of direct sunlight.

Medium iron on the fabric

Use medium heat to smooth the cotton. Iron inside out and avoid placing the iron directly over the Udupp embroidery.

“Care for the cotton. Keep the color close.”
